At Root Sustainability, we're helping retail brands to turn scattered, incomplete operational data into auditable, high-granularity sustainability insights, and we’re doing it from the bottom up. Think tens of millions of data points, messy ERP exports, complex supply chains, and sustainability logic that most tools can’t handle. Our goal is to make all of that feel simple, clear, and usable for the people who rely on it every day.

We've recently closed our seed investment of €1 million and are hiring. That’s where you come in.

🚀 The Role

We’re looking for a pragmatic, hands-on UX Designer who can turn deeply complex problems into clean, intuitive product experiences. You’ll take big, ambiguous sustainability challenges and translate them into flows and interfaces that feel obvious once you see them.

You will work on things like:

• Designing flows and interfaces that make a complex product feel simple and intuitive

• Working with incomplete information and filling the gaps with smart, pragmatic design choices

• Thinking functionally about every detail, while also zooming out to optimise the broader concept

• Making trade-offs explicit and helping the team converge on the best solution without endless back-and-forth

• Owning edge cases and making sure the product works just as well in the 1% as in the 99%

This role is closer to functional UI design than pure visual design. You’ll be the person who makes sure the product actually works, across every scenario, with the simplest possible approach.

• A proactive, ownership-driven mindset. You don’t wait for the full picture. You help create it.

• A strong track record of solving complex UX problems with simple, elegant solutions

• Experience designing functional SaaS or enterprise products

• Comfort working with incomplete information and shaping clarity from ambiguity

• Ability to think in systems, logic, states, and flows

• Legally authorized to work in the EU or set up to work as a contractor

• Available between 10AM and 4PM CET on working days
